Transforming the Darkness of Grief and Sorrow to the Light of Joy!

-A weekend retreat in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh With Judith & Philip Toy, ordained mindfulness teachers from Cloud Cottage Community of Mindful Living Black Mountain, North Carolina, USA

Mindfulness is a kind of fire that consumes our suffering.
–Thich Nhat Hanh

The world is full of suffering. Yet we have all we need right here, right now. Where do we expect to wander in search of happiness? When our minds are constantly reaching for something more or something better, we miss the magic and vibrancy of the present wonderful moment.

This retreat is designed to bring us home, to offer skillful means to bring us gently into the present wonderful moment, using techniques that nourish clarity, joy, and simple, wholesome living. We form a community knit by profound silence, shared chanting practice, singing, seated meditation, indoor and outdoor walking meditation. In the sunlight of full attention, we bloom as flowers. Experienced practitioners find refreshment and renewal at this retreat, and they model the strength of their practice for newcomers.  We will find ways to nourish our capacity for understanding, love, joy, and inclusiveness, and gradually transform anger, violence, and fear that lie deep in our consciousness.
